Congregation Liaison: Outreach and Servant Ministries Committee

The mission of The Sophia Way is to help end homelessness for adult women in King County by providing shelter, life skills training, social services and supportive permanent housing, offering a path from homelessness to stable independent living.

The Sophia Way operates:

  • an overnight shelter for 21 women to sleep, the only staffed overnight shelter for single adult women on the Eastside.
  • a Day Center that is open 365 days a year to drop-ins, with access to immediate and much needed services, including lunch, showers, laundry, phones, computers, casework, and resources.
  • an Emergency Winter Shelter (EWS), providing women with a warm, safe place on cold winter nights.

Saint Andrew’s supports The Sophia Way with budgeted funds, through collections of household items, and participation at many of The Sophia Way events and fundraisers.

Current Opportunities:

Lunch delivered and served on March 27, 2024

We will be gathering donations on Tuesday, March 26, to provide lunch for the women at Sophia’s Place on March 27!

Contact Joyce Arnold to donate a small part of the meal.  It is very rewarding, appreciated, and EASY!

Information about the Next Lunch

Volunteer
The Sophia Way is in need of volunteers in the Day Center for sorting the donated clothes and items they receive, and for making sure the women visiting the Day Center have the clothing they need. The Day Center is located on the lower level at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (3032 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue.)
Volunteers working in the Day Center will need to attend an orientation.
