The parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) teaches us to care for our neighbor. At this Forum, the Racial Justice Group at Saint Andrew’s will lead a discussion on this topic, looking at such questions as:
~ Who is our neighbor?
~ What is our responsibility toward them?
~ What role do racism and privilege play in shaping who we see as our neighbor?

Sunday Discipleship Hour Forum - Living Stones Prison Congregation

Sunday, May 23, 2021 | 10:45 am | via Zoom

Facilitator: Pastor Chris Ode

Pastor Christ Ode will share information regarding God’s work at Living Stones Prison Congregation and his role in that ministry.
Established in 2006, Living Stones Prison Congregation is a ministry of the ELCA operating “behind the walls” of the Washington Corrections Center (Shelton). Pastor Ode spends his time ministering directly to the members of the congregation, developing reentry resources and opportunities, and sharing stories from “the inside” with outside congregations and community groups.

Pastor Ode lives happily with the funniest woman on earth, two inquisitive young children, and a pair of loyal - but dense - Labrador Retrievers. In his spare time, he produces and performs with a local theatre and film company.

Sunday Discipleship Hour Forum - Chaplains in the Armed Forces

Sunday, May 30, 2021 | 10:45 am | via Zoom

Facilitator: The Reverend Herbert Shao

We’re excited to have Reverend Herbert Shao, a chaplain in the Air Force, share with us during this Discipleship Forum on the Memorial Day weekend.
Lieutenant Colonel Shao will speak on the role and responsibilities of chaplains in the Armed Forces and how Lutherans provide a unique and needed voice. In an uneasy world and amid the current pandemic, the role of the chaplain has been expanded as it serves our military family with a renewed purpose.
He will also address how we can better support current and retired service members.
