Congregation Liaison: Outreach and Servant Ministries Committee
Congregations for the Homeless (CFH) is an organization whose mission is to end homelessness on the Eastside by helping men make the transition from life on the street to stable, independent living.
CFH operates a year-round rotating shelter program; comprehensive case management and life coaching for the men served; an emergency shelter that is an overnight refuge and can connect clients to needed resources; a day center that provides men with meals, showers, laundry facilities, computers, clothing, bus tickets, and hygiene products; and a subsidized housing program to help men transition to independent living.
The administrative offices of CFH were at Saint Andrew’s for ten years. They are now located at Lincoln Center in Bellevue.
Saint Andrew’s supports CFH with budgeted funds, collection of clothing and toiletries, and by providing meals for the men in the year-round rotating shelter for two weeks each October. We also hosted the Rotating Shelter Program for the month of March 2020.
As of March 28, and continuing at least through May 31: Saint Andrew’s continues to host the CFH men’s rotating shelter (30-35 men) 24 hours a day / 7 days a week until we are able to open our building for regular use. This was a request from the City of Bellevue and CFH, as many resources available to clients during the day (libraries, etc.) are closed. Having the men able to stay in our building 24/7 helps to keep them safe and healthy.
CFH staff is on site at all times, and closely monitors clients and staff for illness. Anyone with a temperature or other COVID-19 infection symptoms will be isolated at another location. No one showing symptoms is allowed to stay on-site. CFH is also taking extra steps to clean and disinfect surfaces to keep volunteers and the men safe and healthy.
Saint Andrew’s hosted the CFH Rotating Shelter Program for the month of March 2020.
A team of Saint Andrew’s congregation Liaisons and volunteers helped to oversee and coordinate hosting the program. Council members served as key contacts and advisers to the Saint Andrew’s liaisons.
Volunteers served as site hosts each evening, shopped for food and supplies, prepared breakfast and lunch items, checked in each morning, and more.

Dinners are served at 7:15 pm
THANK YOU to all who provided meals in October 2019.
For two weeks in October, Saint Andrew’s Lutheran provides the dinner meals for 35 men hosted at a local church through the Congregations for the Homeless program. We can again share our comfort by walking with the Congregations for the Homeless men’s program, as our witness of God’s Love.
Volunteers cook and prepare the dinner meals, and then deliver and serve the meals.
Meals should be delivered at 6:30 pm, and serving begins at 7:15 pm.
Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to join in the meals with the men.
This is a wonderful outreach opportunity for individuals, small groups, families and friends!
For more information or questions please contact the church office.
