Congregation Liaison: Outreach and Servant Ministries Committee

The Plaster House, a part of the Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre in Tanzania, is a rehabilitation center for post-surgery children, usually in casts (hence the term “Plaster House”). For reasons of health and nutrition, many children cannot rehab successfully in their villages/homes while in casts. They need to stay at the center; the average stay being four weeks, the cost per student is only $4 per day.
To learn more about the Plaster House, visit www.theplasterhouse.org and learn why those kids have a hold on our hearts.

To give to the Plaster House, the best ways are:

  • Use a credit card/ATM card; go online to www.theplasterhouse.org and click on Donate.
  • Write a check to Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church with ‘Plaster House’ on the memo line.

Saint Andrew’s member Jean Wahlstrom serves on the International Advisory Board for the Plaster House.

Saint Andrew’s supports The Plaster House with budgeted funds and occasional collection of items.

ROAD TO 1000!
The Plaster House goal in 2021 continues to be to provide “High Love, Low Cost” surgical rehabilitation for 1000 children with disabilities in Tanzania during this calendar year. They are well on their way to making that goal, a huge milestone in their history! The Plaster House is one of the global projects supported by Saint Andrew’s in our Outreach and Servant Ministries budget.

We are excited to announce that their Founder, Sarah Rejman, is in the USA on a four-city tour to raise the funds needed to treat approximately 200 children between now and the end of the year, thus reaching the goal of 1000 children. The total cost of treatment, including surgery, averages $850.00 per child.

On Sunday, October 10, Saint Andrew’s will be hosting the following online events with Sarah Rejman
UPDATE as of October 6: We regret that Sarah was exposed to COVID-19 in another state, and as a result, the events that were to be on-site at Saint Andrew’s on October 10 have changed, and Sarah will join us online. Below is the updated schedule:

  • Sarah will be the Discipleship Hour Forum speaker at 11:00 am, (online via Zoom.)
  • Lunch, originally scheduled for 12:30 pm in the Saint Andrew’s parking lot, has been CANCELED.
  • Sarah will give a 1:00 pm presentation, online via Zoom. To get the link for this presentation, contact Communications Specialist Susan Hegedus, susan@salc.church or 425-746-2529.
