Prayer

Lord, make us people who recognize, nurture, and act towards a more sustainable world for the benefit of all who draw life from this planet. Raise up campaigners who will speak out for wisdom, restraint, and compassion. And teach us to partner with you in protecting this precious world and the lives of our most vulnerable global neighbors. Amen.

Sunday

August 18, 2024 Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Worship: 10:00 am

In-Person and Livestream on YouTube (visit https://SALC.church/media)

We welcome Pastor Jane Prestbye as our Presiding and Preaching minister. Trained in education at Western Washington University, Pastor Prestbye began working in church ministry with youth in 1973. After serving congregations in Bellingham, Seattle, and Bothell, and also as a faculty member at Trinity Lutheran College (Lutheran Bible Institute), she was ordained and called to Kent Lutheran Church in 1999. In February of 2023 Jane retired and is now enjoying daily gratefulness and the opportunities God provides to share her gifts and passion. Two of her long-term commitments are serving as a member of the Board of Directors for Kent Youth and Family Services, and working with Coach Northwest, a network of coaches in the Northwest WA Synod of the ELCA.

Readings: John 6:35, 41-51; Psalm 34:1-10

Briana Engh from MGLSS (Maasae Girls Lutheran Secondary School) and OBA (Operation Bootstrap Africa)

Briana (Bri) Engh, Operations and Communications Specialist at OBA, will be visiting Saint Andrew's this Sunday. She will also be available for more conversation after the service. In her youth, Bri became interested in social justice, human rights, and advocacy. She was hired by OBA in 2020 and wears many hats: she manages sponsor/student relationships and communications, is the direct contact for the project partners in Tanzania, writes the Dignity newsletter, manages OBAs social media and website content, travels to Tanzania with Discovery Tour groups, and coordinates OBAs yearly event.
