Sunday Discipleship Hour Forum - End of Life Planning

Sunday, January 10, 2021 | 10:45 am | via Zoom

Facilitator: Pastor Lara

End of life planning – why do we need to talk about this stuff? For a variety of reasons, most people tend to avoid or procrastinate talking about death, end-of-life decisions, and funerals. At this forum, we’ll talk about why that might be, and then explore these issues from the perspective of taking care of your family and loved ones..

Sunday Discipleship Hour Forum - Estate Planning

Sunday, January 17, 2021 | 10:45 am | via Zoom

Facilitator: Marc Bateman and Elizabeth Bateman

Bateman Law Group, PLLC, is a law firm comprised of the father-daughter team, Marc and Elizabeth Bateman, whose practice focuses on estate planning, estate and trust administration, guardianships and trust and estate litigation.
The goal of this forum is to clarify the role of estate planning and introduce the many estate planning tools and techniques that are available. We hope to assist participants in becoming more knowledgeable consumers of these legal services with their own legal counsel
(do-it-yourself-ing is not recommended!)
We’ll talk about wills, trusts, estate taxes, powers of attorney, disability planning, guardianships, how to avoid probate (and why you may not want to), charitable gifting, and whatever else we have time for.

Sunday, January 24, 2021 | 10:45 am | via Zoom

Facilitators: Interim Chair Dick Szabo and members of the Outreach and Servant Ministries Committee

Facilitators: Treasurer/Finance Committee Chair Brady Kasper and members of the Finance Committee

The Finance Committee will lead a discussion on the 2021 Saint Andrew’s budget during the January 31 Discipleship Hour Forum. This is a 7-session video series by Dr. Mark Allan Powell, a Lutheran pastor and Bible professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio.
In this video series Dr. Powell invites you to explore seven important questions about Lutherans and the Bible. He does not prescribe “the Lutheran way" to read the Bible nor does he dismiss the way you may have come to understand the Bible. Instead Dr. Powell presents a variety of Lutheran perspectives for interpreting the Bible.
Through Dr. Powell's rich discussions you will discover answers to questions you have always had about the Bible.

Each session is a stand-alone presentation..

The video will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Jean Wahlstrom.

Prayer Partners for Lent

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
For our church, Lent is a special time for prayer.
Paul writes in I Timothy 2:8, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” Praying for others in our congregation strengthens our bonds and lifts us up as we pray.

During Lent we have the opportunity to be matched with a Secret Prayer Partner, possibly someone we know, or someone we have never talked to or don’t even recognize.
We will share enough information about who you’re praying for so you can personalize your prayers for them and any encouraging cards or notes you might want to send.
Praying for another person is a way to support each other and lift each other up as we walk through the season of Lent, looking toward the Cross and the Resurrection!

Sign up below to be a Prayer Partner no later than Wednesday, February 10.
Optionally, you can include specific prayer requests and/or your cell phone number to receive text messages from your Prayer Partner.
You will be notified with your Partner's name and prayer requests before Ash Wednesday, February 17.

We have scheduled a “reveal” for the Sunday after Easter, April 11, during Discipleship Hour at 10:45 am (via Zoom) to find out who has been praying for us and discuss our Lenten journeys.

Contact Cheryl Jurrus for more information.

Optional information

Midweek Bible Study, with Pastor Lara

Tuesdays | 10:00 am | via Zoom

Join Pastor Lara for midweek Bible study.

Each week, we take an in-depth look at the upcoming Sunday readings.
For example, on November 4 we studied the readings for Sunday, November 8.

We still meet via Zoom at 10:00 am, but Pastor Lara “starts” the meeting at 9:45 am so that you have time to check in with each other and get settled prior to our opening prayer.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Sign up below and the Zoom link to access the session will be emailed to you.

Questions? Contact Pastor Lara, pastor@salc.church

Sanctuary Prayer

We have missed being together here at Saint Andrew’s.
While we can’t yet hold traditional in-person worship services, your household can now come to the Sanctuary for individual prayer.
Keeping our congregation healthy and safe is our paramount concern in this re-opening period, so we are asking everyone to sign up to come to pray.
This will limit numbers and maintain physical distancing.

You will be sent more details and instructions for accessing the building after signing up.

Contact Fellowship Coordinator Sherry Grindeland, sherry@salc.church, or Communications Specialist Susan Hegedus, susan@salc.church, with questions.

The Sanctuary is available 7:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday.

Signing up 24 hours in advance is required.

Please note: The Sanctuary is not available for prayer on:
Tuesday and Wednesday, February 16 and 17
Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Lent
All of Holy Week (March 28 - April 4)

I/We plan to come to the Sanctuary to pray:
