Coordinator: Health and Wholeness Ministry

Health and Wholeness Ministry assembles Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief (LWR).

These kits are distributed by LWR around the world, providing hygiene, dignity and hope to those in crisis situations. The kits are sent to areas of the world where an emergency has occurred, and people are left with very little.  The kits supply basic items for survival.

Fall 2021:
We are collecting items for Personal Care Kits. Lutheran World Relief is in urgent need of these kits due to low rates of participation during the past year and a half. The demand for the kits has increased significantly with the pandemic, and the recent earthquake in Haiti added to the urgency. The items needed are:

  • bath towels (lightweight, dark colored, size: 20″ x 40″ to 27″ x 52″)
  • bars of soap (4-5 ounces in original packaging)
  • adult-sized toothbrushes (in original packaging; can be multi-packs)
  • large sturdy combs (sturdy, no picks or fine tooth combs)
  • metal nail clippers (large or small, attached nail file optional)

Donations can be placed in the basket near the elevator in the Narthex. Kits will be assembled and sent to LWR later this fall.
We are also accepting monetary donations. Make the check payable to Saint Andrew’s and note “Kits – Lutheran World Relief” in the memo line.

  • Lenten Collection 2022 - Baskets of Promise

The Baskets of Promise program is our special collection emphasis during Lent, and helps to fill the Personal Care Kits that are sent out in May. Our goal is to assemble 170 Personal Care Kits!
One item for collection is emphasized each Sunday in Lent.
